Salary negotiation can be tricky.

You never know when it is the right time. Or the right day. In truth, no one knows.

One of my colleagues tried. She failed.

She was given a standard management counsel and asked to work hard for this current performance year. Joey knows what it means. In short, she did not meet the invisible bar for a mid-year salary negotiation.

And here’s the challenge.

Who the hell knows how high that invisible bar is?

In sales, deal size matters.

Then, Joey signed a mid-sized 7-digit deal with a big brand.

That contract alone allowed her to hit her annual sales target by June. She was over the moon. No one else on our team blew past their annual sales target by the middle of the year.

Joey broke our [all-time] record.

Sensing an opportunity, she mustered the courage to get an appointment with our Chief Revenue Officer. It was masked as a 1-on-1 virtual coffee for coaching notes.
